GREETINGS BACKGAMMON PLAYERS !
This is Dshort, and I am the tournament director for the 3 point tournament.
This message is being sent to all of the players in the tournament.
I am enclosing first round pairings and rules.
You will be receiving your first boards very soon.
The doubling cube is used for this tournament - and we will observe the Crawford rule. Each player plays a match to 3 points against their opponent. First player to get to 3 points wins the match. A gammon is worth 2 times the value of the doubling cube, a backgammon is worth 3 points the value of the doubling cube. To use the doubling cube you MUST be on manual.
To put yourself on manual, you have to send in a message to the server first.
When you are on manual, you have the option of rolling the dice or doubling before you move. When your opponent controls the die you will automatically roll the dice before each turn even if you are on manual.
To place yourself on manual, send an email to pbmserv@gamerz.net with:
Backgammon Board (board number) (userid) (password) manual
in the subject line. For instance, if your userid is freddie and your password is chocolate and you are playing on Board 12345, the email would look like this:
Backgammon Board 12345 freddie chocolate manual
When you are on manual, before you move each time you will have to send either
Backgammon Board (board number) (userid) (password) double
or
Backgammon Board (board number) (userid) (password) roll
To accept a double, send
Backgammon Board (board number) (userid) (password) accept
To reject a double, send
Backgammon Board (board number) (userid) (password) reject
Remember that if you reject a double, you automatically lose that game for the value of the doubling cube. If no one has doubled yet, the value of the game is one point. Changing the value of a game for a gammon or backgammon only comes into play when a player has finished bearing off, not when an opponent rejects a double.
I am sending in the challenge commands for the first game of every match.
Players should email me
copies of their completed games to
christian
was: pepper889@hotmail.com
If the email bounces back as undeliverable, try me at davidnyj889@hotmail.com as sometimes I am over my storage limit on my accounts.
Players then should send in the challenge commands for their next game(s) in their match themselves and continue to forward completed games to me as they finish. When matches are over, please realize we will not be able to proceed with the next round until all first round games are over.
The tournament is open to 48 players and is single elimination. We will pair the field down from 48 players, to 24, to 12, to 6, and then to the final 3.
The final 3 players will each play a 3-point match concurrently with the other two finalists. If one player wins both of their matches, they win the tournament.
In the event of a 3-way tie where Player A beats Player B, Player B beats Player C, and Player C beats Player A, each player will again play 2 new 3-point matches against each other. If there is still a 3-way tie after the second set of finalist matches, 3 co-winners will be named.
Anyone interested in seeing the ratings I used to determine the seeds?
Here they are! Established players were ranked ahead of our 2 provisionally rated players, who were ranked ahead of our one unrated player. In cases where 2 players were tied with the same rating, the higher seed was given to the player with the better lifetime +/- win/loss record.
