CHESS TOURNAMENT

tomj will shortly start a chess tournament at the server.
The tournament is filled and here are the details how it is conducted:

TOURNAMENT RULES

First round: three 9-player sections and one 8-player section

Top 4 from each group will go into 2 8-player semi-finals (A1 and A2).
All others into three Second-chance sections (B1 and B2 and B3).

Top 3 player from A1 and A2 plus winner of B1 and B2 and B3 will form 9-player Grand Finals.

Ties for final spot(s) to advance will be broken as follows:
2 ties for 1 spot:
1) head to head record, this round
2) compare score with each player starting at top of section.
3 or more tie:
same as 2 ties and restart tie breaker with each eliminated or qualified.

Some entrants will be unavailable until around 15 Jan. so start games that are possible and wait on others. Some players, myself included, will be slow in Jan. Please try to make al least 3 moves a week, preferably more. I normally try to make a move a day and more on weekends if opponent is moving also.

If for any reason you must withdraw during tournament, PLEASE resign your games and let opponents and myself know.
